If you haven’t heard about Phoenix Rejuvenation Spa yet, let us introduce you to the wonderful woman behind this amazing wellness haven: Mica Dixon! Mica is not only the owner and operator of the spa but also a loving wife and proud mom to two beautiful children, Phoenix (7) and Mila Luna (1). She’s a born-and-raised Florida native, with deep roots in the Polk County area. While she’s traveled and experienced many cultures, Central Florida will always be home.
Over the past few months, Mica and I have really bonded over our shared experiences, despite the age gap. We both come from Hispanic backgrounds, though neither of us “look” Hispanic, and we were raised by strong Hispanic women in small, predominantly Anglo-Saxon communities. We also share a love for food and spend plenty of time hunting down new places to eat. On top of that, we both have a passion for shopping and are constantly brainstorming ways to expand our business reach.
It’s been amazing to connect on so many levels. She has become a trusted and cherished friend and I can’t wait for y’all to get to know her better.
From Lockdown Dreams to Wellness Reality: Mica Dixon’s Journey
Q: Tell us a little about yourself! Who are you, and what do you do?
My name is Mica Dixon! I’m a wife, mother of two, and the proud owner and operator of Phoenix Rejuvenation Spa. I was born and raised in Florida, specifically in areas like Lake Alfred, Dundee, Haines City, and Davenport. While I love traveling and experiencing new cultures and food, Central Florida is always home to me.
Q: Can you tell us more about your family?
I have two amazing children! My son, Phoenix, is a hilarious and energetic 7-year-old that I homeschool. He’s always keeping me on my toes, and homeschooling gives us the flexibility to explore his interests together. Then there’s my daughter, Mila Luna, who is 16 months old. She was born prematurely, just like her brother, and every day with her is a miracle. Both of my children are rainbow babies, and they’ve brought so much joy into our lives.
My husband, Ben, and I cherish the time we get to spend with our children. As a union ironworker (shoutout to Local 808!), Ben puts in long and demanding hours at work, so when we do have the chance to be together, we make the most of it by creating unforgettable family memories. Ben is truly the rock that grounds our family, especially in the midst of our busy entrepreneurial life. His strength and support keep us balanced, and I’m so grateful for the time we share as a family.
I’m also incredibly grateful to my mom. She’s not only a fantastic grandmother but also my business partner in all four of our family businesses. I truly couldn’t juggle it all without her.
Q: How did Phoenix Rejuvenation Spa come about?
In 2020, during the lockdown, I decided to go back to school for massage therapy. I fell in love with how much massage can benefit not just the body but also the mind. However, because I’m a type 1 diabetic, I soon realized that giving massages all day was having a negative effect on my health, especially my blood sugar levels.
Even though I couldn’t continue performing massages, I didn’t want to give up on the idea of bringing those wellness benefits to my community. So, I opened Phoenix Rejuvenation Spa to offer a range of services that combine wellness, beauty, and relaxation.
Q: What challenges have you faced in building your business?
It hasn’t been an easy road. We found our location in July 2021, but it needed a ton of work—there were no floors, toilets, or sinks! We had to completely rebuild the interior before we could even think about furniture and décor. Once we finally got through inspections and received our license in December 2021, we hit the ground running.
But just when things were starting to pick up, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, and due to my health, I had to slow down. It was a tough time because the first few years of a business are so critical. After my daughter was born prematurely in May 2023, we spent time in the NICU. Finally, in October 2023, I was able to get back on track with the business, and now we’re moving forward full steam!
Q: What’s your vision for Phoenix Rejuvenation Spa?
I want to redefine the wellness and beauty experience in Polk County by blending health, wellness, and beauty in a holistic but modern way. My goals for the spa include offering innovative treatments, educating clients about holistic practices, creating a serene environment, and tailoring services to individual needs. I’m also committed to sustainability and using ethically sourced, high-quality products.
Q: What do you love most about living in Polk County?
I love that Polk County is so centrally located. In less than two hours, you can be at some of the most beautiful beaches, Disney, Universal, or even Miami! It’s a perfect mix of suburban life with easy access to so much. We live in a place that people dream of vacationing. My only complaint is the rapid growth, which hasn’t always been matched with proper city planning.
Q: What’s your favorite place to be in Polk County?
Honestly, it’s Phoenix Rejuvenation Spa! I’ve worked hard to create a space that’s tranquil, fun, and rejuvenating. I love being there, and I love how our team prioritizes our clients’ needs and experiences. It’s a special place to be part of.
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I’ve been given, as both a mom and an entrepreneur, is to prioritize self-care and set boundaries. It’s something I’ve had to learn over time, but it’s made such a difference in both my personal and professional life. I’ve realized that when I take care of myself, I’m able to show up fully for my family and my business.
Q: What inspires you?
Growth inspires me. I want to be a better mom, wife, business owner, and person than I was yesterday. I’m always learning—whether it’s about my business, relationships, or personal growth. It doesn’t always go perfectly, but I’m committed to improving each day.
