Every morning starts with a scale, blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, and a few minutes checking in with Orlando Health’s Remote Patient Monitoring program. My numbers are sent directly to the nurses so they can keep an eye on things while I recover and adjust to this whole congestive heart failure thing.

I had no idea this kind of program even existed, but I’m really grateful it does. It’s one of the tools helping me stay on track, one morning at a time.

I almost didn’t go. I kept telling myself it was

I almost didn’t go.

I kept telling myself it was probably a sinus infection, allergies, or maybe I was just run down. Mom life has a funny way of convincing us to push through one more day. Instead, I ended up being transferred from urgent care by ambulance to a hospital after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure.

This isn’t some perfectly planned series. It’s real life, and I’m figuring it out as I go. But if sharing what I’m learning helps another woman recognize the signs sooner, ask more questions, or decide to get something checked out instead of brushing it off, then it’s worth talking about.

Over the next few weeks and months, I’ll share what happened, what I’ve learned, the symptoms I completely missed, and local resources here in Polk County that every woman should know about.

If something feels off, trust yourself and get it checked out. I’d rather you leave an appointment hearing, “Everything looks great,” than ignore something that isn’t.

Looking for a way to beat the heat this Thursday?

Thursdays at Central are back in Lake Alfred, and this week’s theme is Spray Day with the Lake Alfred Fire Department. Bring the kids for a morning of FREE water fun from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Central Park.

The July lineup keeps the fun going with a Foam Party, inflatable water slides, and a water balloon day later this month, so there’s something to look forward to every Thursday.

Things to Do Tomorrow with the Kids!

If you’re looking to get out of the house tomorrow, you’ve got a couple of fun (and free) options happening in Polk County.

From 11 AM to 1 PM, head to Downtown Auburndale Park for Time Out Tuesday, sponsored by our friends at 1st Class Roofing. This week’s theme is Bounce House Day, so expect plenty of jumping, playing, and a fun morning with other local families.

If your kids love animals, make your way to Lakeside Village from 10:00 to 11:30 AM for Into the Wild Kid Club. The live reptile experience starts promptly at 10:00 AM, featuring The Reptiles Family from Lakeland. There will also be animal balloon art, a live DJ, and an interactive animal presentation. Be sure to arrive a few minutes early so you don’t miss the reptile show, and don’t forget water, sunscreen, and snacks because it’s going to be a hot one.

Whether you’re heading to a hometown celebration, spending the day at the lake, or ending the night with fireworks, we hope you have a fun and memorable holiday with the people you love. A few friendly reminders before you head out:
• Arrive early because parking fills up fast.
• Stay hydrated. It is Florida after all.
• Bring bug spray, sunscreen, chairs, and blankets where they’re allowed.
• Keep a close eye on little ones, especially after dark.
• Be patient leaving events because traffic is always part of the celebration.
• If you’re lighting your own fireworks, remember that consumer fireworks are only legal in Florida on July 4. Have a hose or bucket of water nearby, never relight a dud, and keep kids and pets at a safe distance.
