5 Tips for the Ultimate Cinco de Mayo Party! - Polk County Moms

Cheers to Spring—and what better way to kick off the season than with a killer Cinco de Mayo fiesta? We recently threw together a soirée with a little help from 21Seeds, a female-founded fruit-infused tequila brand we love, and our talented friends at Habitual Hostess. Here are 5 tips for a party you’ll want to repeat every May, whether it’s for a group of your friends or your family.

Start with a Signature Cocktail

Cinco de Mayo is all about the tequila, and we recommend making cocktails with 21Seeds, which takes half the work out of making top-notch drinks. Mix their delicious infused tequilas with fresh juices and sweetener if you like, and you’re done! We love their Skinnyseed Spicy Margarita, a classic made with 21Seeds Cucumber Jalapeño Tequila, fresh lime juice and simple syrup, but the Skinnyseed Paloma, made with 21Seeds Grapefruit Hibiscus, fresh pink grapefruit juice and club soda is a pretty close second.

What Moms are Saying…

21Seeds tequila is perfect for mixed cocktails and margaritas. With the delicious blend of natural flavors, the Cucumber Jalapeño Spicy Marg is my drink of choice.” -Layla

“Highly recommend. 21Seeds is very smooth with zero bite. Pleasant aroma, texture, flavor, overall outstanding tequila. A lovely addition to any tequila aficionados  collection.”
-Allie

“I love 21Seeds because it’s not just another tequila. The flavors are bold and delicious and the infused fruit makes it perfect for all my favorite cocktails.”
-Asya

Keep the Food Simple

This isn’t Thanksgiving, so nobody will notice if you don’t slave over a hot stove all day making traditional favorites. Want to whip up a fun make-your-own taco bar? Great! You really can’t beat these Slow-Cooker Carnitas from Habitual Hostess, which cook all day and come together quickly before dinner. But your guests (or family) will be equally appreciative if you Door Dash from your favorite local Mexican joint!

Decorate with Color

Depending on how formal your event is, you can put as much or as little effort into décor as you’d like. The key, however, is *color*. Mix and match brightly-hued cloth napkins and glassware for a festive feel for a party with friends, or break out the streamers and piñata for a kid-friendly get-together.

Did Somebody say Salsa?

We’re not talking about dipping your chips (obvi that’s already a given!). Liven the party up with some live salsa dancing. Hire a professional dancer to lead a fun session or simply queue up a video to follow along with. To help you keep the music on-theme, we found a great playlist from Billboard.com: https://www.billboard.com/music/latin/cinco-de-mayo-spotify-playlist-7356924/.

End with a Sweet Finish

Tequila Cupcakes… Yup, we said it. Infuse your cupcakes with tequila for the ultimate Cinco de Mayo indulgence. We love this recipe from Spruce Eats – be sure to use 21Seeds as the tequila as its real fruit juice makes this sweet treat taste even better. Or serve up the Cocorita, a yummy but lower-cal take on a Piña Colada, made with 21Seeds Valencia Orange Tequila.
